Quality Rating

It’s estimated that 83% of cases of celiac are missed or people are misdiagnosed with something different. New research published in April 2023 looked at some ways to improve missed celiac cases. Typically with celiac testing – 1-2 markers are run to see if further testing is needed. However, this study concluded that only running 1 blood marker missed 10% of those with celiac. Running the full 4-6 markers could help doctors have a more clear picture of if further biopsy is needed. Tests to ask your doctor for if testing for celiac (pre-biopsy): total IgA tissue transglutaminase (tTG-IgA) immunoglobulin A (IgA) tTG immunoglobulin G (IgG) tests endomysial antibody (EMA) – IgA test deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) -IgA DGP-IgG tests Link to the study: HERE   Other Resources: Beyond Celiac
