We are the

Crohn’s and Colitis Dietitians™.

We specialize in providing top-of-the-line medical nutrition therapy for Crohn’s and Colitis patients.

Our dietitians help people get relief from complex digestive concerns like diarrhea, constipation, persistent bloating, SIBO, acid reflux, allergy, EOE, and much more.

We have been there. We get it.

We understand the things you’re struggling with right now – the pain, the bloating, the constant running for the bathroom – because all four of our dietitians in our practice have IBD!

We have the privilege of helping hundreds of patients with Crohn’s or Colitis each year find symptom relief and reduce their risk.

We have been able to see the incredible transformations that are possible for people when they get customized, evidence-based nutrition insight and lots of support.

We are here for you and will meet you where you are at.

We know that everyone starts this journey at a different place and the whole reason you are considering reaching out in the first place is to make life less stressful- not more. We incorporate strategies with nutrition that encourage intuitive eating, health at every size (HAES) and are LBGTQ friendly. We aim to be a safe place where you can expect non-judgment and open mindedness.

Our Dietitians

Ashley Hurst, MS, RD, LD (she/her)

Registered and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist

When Ashley was initially diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis as a college student, it turned her world upside down. Her symptoms made it close to impossible to work or study, and she had to give up a promising collegiate running career.

She also felt confused and disappointed by the limited treatment options her medical team offered – so she dedicated the next 10 years to learning everything she could about managing UC symptoms with nutrition.

Along the way, she got a Master’s degree in Medical Nutrition Therapy, became a Registered Dietitian and opened her own private practice to help Crohn’s and Colitis patients get to symptom remission faster, and stay there longer.

Taryn Mattern, MS, RD, LD (she/her)

Registered and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist

Taryn is a dietitian who has lots of experience with digestive disorders, oncology, and post-surgery care.

She has had Ulcerative Colitis since she was 3 years old, and nutrition and lifestyle changes truly transformed her health.

Once she experienced what nutrition therapy could do in her own life, she wanted to learn more so she could show others that remission is possible, and help them get relief from IBD symptoms.

Taryn received her undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech, and a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Winthrop University.

Christa Smith, MS, RD, LD (she/her)

Registered and Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist

Christa is a lifelong athlete who also has IBD, so she knows firsthand how difficult and disruptive flares can be.

Christa was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in her third trimester of her third pregnancy. Even though she is a dietitian, she still felt lost when she was diagnosed. But she knew there were answers out there, so she sought help and began her own research on nutrition as well.

Christa has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Dallas Baptist University and a Masters degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Christa is also a seasoned Sports Dietitian who is excellent at in providing care for athletes with digestive troubles. She is currently studying with the International Olympic Committee for her Diploma in Sports Nutrition.

I feel like a whole new woman…

I went to Ashley with severe stomach issues after being blown off by numerous doctors. Within 2 weeks I noticed a difference and now 6 months later I feel like a whole new woman. I recommend anyone and everyone to visit her. She is very knowledgeable about food as medicine. She believes in healing her clients.
