Research: Reduced Risk of Antibiotic Related Diarrhea ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

In a meta-analysis that looked at adult and pediatric patients use of the biocodex strain, Treatment with S. boulardii compared with placebo reduced the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea from 17.2% to 6.7%. Overall there was a 57% reduced risk of antibiotic related diarrhea.

Research: Reduced Microbiome Changes & Symptoms ⭐⭐⭐

This study looked at 2 groups of people on antibiotics. One group just took the antibiotic, while the other group took the antibiotic and a probiotic at a separate time. After 2 weeks of taking the biocodex strain (2 capsules, twice daily) with antibiotics, compared to the antibiotic only group, those who also used biocodex strain also had reduce antibiotic related gut microbiome changes and improved digestive symptoms based on a symptom rating questionnaire. This research also showed reduced antibiotic associated diarrhea at day 7 and day 14 when compared to the antibiotic group only.

Dose Used: 2 capsules (500 mg), twice daily

  • As with all antibiotics, probiotics are best taken 3-4 hours between antibiotic doses so that you can actually get the benefits of a probiotic.
  • Keep in mind there are many saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii types, but these benefits are only seen in the biocodex group.
  • Avoid purchasing probiotics that do not list the strain name
